I am currently on it and it really seems to help.......but I hear a lot of people having issues with abusing or coming off and it causing medical problems.....I guess what im saying is how many people can stay on this med without having problems with it? And is it even worth it if it works if it may cause problems later and will prob have a hell of a time concentrating without it???
Adderall is great, but its dangerous. I took adderall for many years. Somethings you should know- its very addictive and has the highest potential for abuse, its a schedule 2 drug. Its also prescribed for treatment resistant depression, and therefore makes you feel good, and is more powerful than most antidepressants. Adderall has listed side effects, including: Paranoia, delusions and hallucinations.
I was hospitalized more than once because of delusions and paranoia. Check out quittingadderall.com and look at the forums, there are alot of stories of adderalls dangerous side effects. I did a search on adderall psychoses and forums and was amazed at all the people who have had psychosises on this medication.
BUT, it does make you feel great! lol
But seriously, even if you don't have any of the common side effects, you can't be on this medication forever, and eventually you will have to go through withdrawl, and learn how to live life without it. Its not easy, I was on it for many years, and it took a court order psychiatrist and multiple hospitalizations, to get off this drug (three months now) and i still think about taking it sometimes.
I am 42yr and suffer from depression and add. I have been on adderall on and off for 6 yrs and have never had any side effects or withdrawal symptoms when taking it or stopping it.
My 18yr son takes it also for his adhd and does really well on it without any symptoms or side effects. He also doesn't consistently take the adderall everyday and doesn't have any problems. I have read that adhd kids who take meds for adhd have a lower risk of drug abuse compared to adhd kids who do not take any adhd meds.
All meds have side effects and not everyone responds the same so I think it's definately a personal choice. I am a RN and when my son was young I did a lot of research on adhd meds. I was afraid of side effects and afraid the meds would change the person my son was, but his quality of life was limited due to his behavior and getting into trouble all the time. I have no regrets putting him on meds in grade school!
Hope this helps and if you have any questions, just ask. Good luck!
I joined today because I am Considering going on Adderall XR. I have been on ADD Meds off and on since 2007. I have been off for over 2 years now. However, ALL the symptoms I see on the forums, Are Totally ME. I was put on Vyvanse and it made me So Wired, then crash. I was on Adderall XR in 2007 10mg, but I stopped because I was terrifed of what happens going off. I had been off Ritalin before and I could NOT get out of bed, I literally was NON functioning. I swore I would live free of these meds. I tried Natural stuff, but nothing worked. I see my Head MD on Tuesday but I am not sure I want to Begin Adderall XR again OR ANYThing. I have tried Strattera, Concerta, Ritalin, Provigel, and Vyvanse. Adderall if I recall did seem to work the best. I also Struggle with Resistant Depression and nothing works that great from everything. I am taking Lexapro 10 or 20. I have done both. Not much difference. My Body on low doses affects me in like others on Higher doses. PLEASE SHARE. I am 47 and I dont want to live life just existing. Desires are there to do things, but the Follow through is not there, I have no memory, no listening to remember what is said unless I write down. Concentration is nill. Thanks so much
I take Adderal XR 20mg twice a day. I was diagnosed with ADD as an adult although in retrospect I have had it since I was a kid. What my doctor did was he started me off at the lowest dosage once a day and I met with him once a month and we would continue to review adjusting the medication on a monthly basis until I was on the right dosage for 90 days and felt good. That is the best place to start since all of us are affected differently from medications. My medication basically carries me through my 9-5 work day and starts to wain off by 7pm or so. My side effects through the process have been minimal aside from the adjustment period. The only side effects I have experienced is sometimes its hard to sleep if you take the pill too late in the day and once in a while I get a little too much energy where you can clean the whole house no problems!! Over all I am way more focused and it's made my organization do a 180 and I overall perform better at my job. For that reason alone it is worth it because I have a higher quality of life now. Hope this helps....
Thank you so much for sharing about what your thoughts are on Adderall XR. I am on 10 mg XR and will go from there with any adjustments. What really is UPSETTING NOW is that I got my Prescription filled and the Pharmacy filled it with GENERIC. I cant take Generic. Is sure was alot Cheaper, however, I felt for Two days, Like I was Zoned and just the opposite of what Adderall XR does.
I HAVE ASKED MANY, if they are the Same Medications, then WHY ARE THEY CHEAPER? There has to be something Totally Different in the Way they are made or the coating or Something. It was like I started on something Foreign. SO NOW I AM OUT OF MEDS, AND MY INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER ANYTHING NEW BECAUSE THEY ALREADY FILLED THE GENERIC EVEN THOUGH I CANT TAKE IT.
Anyone have thoughts on this? Sorry top start a New Topic in the Middle of a Topic, but It is REAL and has to do with ADDERALL XR working. Thanks

The chance of you getting addicted depends on your track record with abusing stimulants already. I'm assuming there isn't any for you- but there are also are non-stimulant meds too, I take Strattera and it helps tremendously.
