LIFE on medication VS. Life off of medication

Posted in Group:

The bar is set pretty high when i am on my medication. I am high functioning, organized, and ADD symptom free when I am on medication. When I am off my medication, I am not as High functioning, organized and I have symptoms. All the years that I am on my medication, I establish a life for myself. When I am off my medication, I find that I cannot continue on with that life, because I am now untreated. My question is, should I seek medication and take it, creating a life that is only sustainable as long as my medication is continued. Or should I accept the symptoms of ADD, and accept a life that I can sustain without medication? The reason why I ask this is because, I have been taken off my medication before, and the life that i built with medication fell apart, and I was a different person, I found out I couldnt do the stuff I used to be able to do, and I couldn't maintain the life or lifestyle i was accustomed to while on medication.

My son has been ADHA since he was first born. At ten months he began beating his head on the coffee table, floor or walls. By the time he was one years old he was driving me crazy. He was born in 1972, so they did not give meds like they do now. He has 3 boys and 1 girl and his second child who is a boy has ADHA. My son refuses to take his meds because he does not like the way they make him feel and they make him loose weight. His son takes them everyday. His wife takes them everyday. He is a Minister and he is so unorganized. He has a hard time doing and remembering the things he needs to do, or places he needs to be from time to time. If he would take his meds he would be much more productive and his life would be so much easier for him. His wife has to remind him from time to time what he needs to do or what appointments he needs to go to.
I personally think that you should take your meds everyday because you will be more productive and you will be able to complete tasks without struggling. If you stay on your meds like the doctor perscribes you won't know what your life would be like without them.
I look at it like this, I am a diabetic 2 and I have to take 2 glimprides a day, one in the morning and one at night. I may have to do this forever or end up having to take more as the diabetes progresses and as I age . So, should I take it and control my blood sugar and watch my sugar intake and carbs, or do I go off of it and eat anything I want? So would I be living a conterfiet life because I take my meds and watch what I eat? I think not.
You are no different than anyone else in this world for most everyone takes some kind of meds. I guess what you have to ask yourself is: What kind of life do you want? How successful do you want to be in life? How much do you want to struggle in doing the tasks that you need to accomplish?
